Marshalls PLC has demonstrateded their ongoing commitment to improving site Health & Safety with over £1 million of investment in state-of-the-art safety equipment to prevent dangerous silo over-pressurisation during delivery of powdered cement via road tanker. By utilising Hycontrol's silo protection systems on every site, Marshalls will secure the safety of approximately 160 silos at block plants and ready-mix concrete sites nationwide. Hycontrol MD Nigel Allen states: “It is excellent that a company of Marshalls’ stature is taking seriously the need for comprehensive silo safety, to protect both the integrity of their site assets and – more importantly – the well-being of their personnel and the public. Our systems not only meet but exceed ‘best practice’ pressure safety guidelines from the Mineral Products Association (MPA).

ATEX-rated silo protection systems have been installed by Hycontrol on two flour silos at world-famous food manufacturer McVitie's. As flour is a potentially explosive substance, ATEX safety precautions are essential. The Hycontrol system ensures that pressure and level safety are being maintained in a safe environment. The system is serviced by ATEX-trained Hycontrol engineers every six months to ensure optimum performance, including checking the fine flour is not impeding the PRV or the filter unit.

Hycontrol has installed fully integrated SPS silo protection systems to ensure the ongoing safe and reliable pneumatic filling of dolomite powder storage silos operating at the Leeds manufacturing site of Everbuild Building Products Ltd, part of the renowned Sika Group. Everbuild’s Engineering Manager Luke Erlank is clear on his company’s safety philosophy and the importance of effective silo protection: “Our parent company’s plant in Welwyn Garden City already has Hycontrol SPS protection systems successfully operating on nine silos. Hycontrol's advanced GLT feature gives us important operational benefits by allowing our operators to test all key components of the SPS, including the PRV, before every fill."

Cornish food manufacturer Tamar Foods recognised the need for reliable ATEX-rated silo protection at their manufacturing facility. All of Hycontrol’s ATEX-area equipment is fully-certified, and Tamar managers were confident that Hycontrol’s decades of expertise would guarantee a safe and effective installation. Several systems have been installed and are serviced by ATEX-trained Hycontrol engineers every six months to ensure continued optimum performance.

As part of a large project, Hycontrol has manufactured, supplied and installed silo protection systems at over thirty Aggregate Industries sites across the UK since early 2015 alone. A.I. recognised the advantages of the Hycontrol system for preventing product loss and adhering to MPA safety guidelines.

Integrated SPS silo protection systems, installed and commissioned by Hycontrol, are ensuring global sealant and adhesive specialists Sika meet the latest MPA safety guidelines. The new over-pressurisation systems have been installed on nine 50-tonne capacity silos at their UK headquarters. Sika’s Engineering and Facilities Manager Nick Luxemburg is very pleased with the new installation: “We take site safety very seriously and had recognised that the existing silo protection systems needed upgrading. The complete installation has been carried out with minimum plant disruption, with Hycontrol engineers working closely with our in house staff. The SPS systems exceed MPA guidelines, and we can rest assured that the silo filling process can be carried out safely and expediently."

Following consultation with Hycontrol, the customer was aware of issues with its existing systems at multiple sites across the UK. Their newly-installed silo protection systems help reduce risk and facilitate easier maintenance on very busy sites.
